After about AD 1200, people throughout the Tonto Basin lived in single story, apartmentlike residences. Shared courtyard areas were probably used for daily chores like food preparation and craft production. Most of the resources needed for these tasks were produced or procured in the nearby valley and mountain areas. Cooking was often a group activity, evidenced by shared food preparation areas found in residential courtyards.
Most of the material needed for the manufacturing of tools, pottery, and for weaving were available near Tonto Basin villages.
