Base
The base has the image of the "Lord of the Earth" (Tlaltecuhtli) on the bottom. The ancient Mexicans placed representations of this god in direct contact with the earth; thus during the early years of the colonial period, the natives surreptitiously selected these pieces to make colonial columns that they were ordered to make, so that the god remained on the lower part of the column in the original position that was used in ancient times, and thus they continued to render homage to the prohibited cult.
