Huehueteotl-Xiuhtecuhtli
Huehueteotl-Xiuhtecuhtli, old god and god of fire, and lord of the year. He dwelled in the center of the universe. Traditionally he was represented as a toothless, seated, hunchbacked old man with wrinkled skin, seen carrying a huge brazier on his back. However, in the Mexica period he was seldom represented as such, as seen in this example. His age signified experience and wisdom. One of his symbols was the quincunx cross symbolizing the four directions of the universe, which extended out from the center where he resided.
