Offerings: Obsidian Objects in General
Obsidian
artifact were one of the major components of the FSP burial complex. The
photo shows a context in Grave 14, in which obsidian blades were found
in cluster. Besides obsidian figurines, obsidian objects included in the
graves were mainly tools used to cut or pierce with a sharp edge or point,
like projectile points, prismatic blades, knives, piercers, etc. The obsidian
offerings were studied by Alejandro Sarabia, who is publishing formal analysis
of the materials in hard copy version from our project. Symbolic aspects
of the materials were independantly studied by Sugiyama.
All obsidian Offerings found at the FSP were categorized here into four
groups:
