Graves at the Feathered Serpent Pyramid: Conclusion
As a consequence of the new excavations in 1988-89, we now
believe that probably more than 200 people composed this burial
complex. All the graves, except for Graves 12, 15, and the grave pit
in front of the staircase, seem to have comprised a single program
dedicated to the erection of the FSP. Graves 12 and 15
stratigraphically predate the other graves. Grave 12 might originally
have been an elite grave associated with an earlier structure that
was re-used probably as another sacrificial grave after its looting
when the FSP was constructed. A grave pit found in front of the
staircase of the FSP may have been posterior to the erection of the
FSP. This seems to be the best candidate, if any existed at the FSP,
for an royal tomb containing a person or people who died a natural
death.
